The soffit is the decking underneath a roof. These planks are tongue-and-groove, and have been painted with Timberpro, a wood finish. The outside plank is drilled with holes (below, John Mehta working on it) and then a screen is put over the holes; the holes allow air to circulate thru the insulation, the screen keeps critters from getting in.
